As the Head of Workplace safety you are at the heart of keeping our employees, contractors, suppliers and customers safe. Partnering with various cross-functional teams, this role will help design, develop, and deploy restaurant-ready solutions that reflect the operational practicalities of a fast-paced Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) environment. In this role you will help bring McDonald’s safety strategy and operational best-practice to life across our restaurant network, leveraging your extensive WHS experience, and a proven track record of delivering safety excellence. What can you expect on a day-to-day basis? 

  • Developing and implementing a national safety and well-being continuous improvement framework
  • Providing strategic safety expertise and support to McDonald’s restaurants across Australia
  • Leading the development and deployment of WHS compliance resources, tools, and training
  • Overseeing national risk controls for kitchen safety, manual handling, slips/trips/falls, equipment use, and customer-related incidents
  • Monitoring safety trends and drive practical improvements and targeted training
  • Partnering with the Injury Management team for national injury management and return-to-work support
  • Managing compliance activities with safety regulators and government agencies
  • Leading national well-being initiatives supporting mental health, resilience, and engagement

Your keys to success:

  • 10+ years of experience in safety leadership roles, preferably in multi-site, fast-paced, customer-facing environments (QSR, retail, hospitality, or logistics)
  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety, Psychology, Health Sciences, or a related field
  • Deep knowledge of Australian WHS and workers’ compensation laws across all jurisdictions
  • Proven experience leading national safety and well-being programs in a franchised or distributed operational model
  • Strong ability to influence, coach, and collaborate with operational leaders and franchisees
  • Strategic thinker with root-cause analysis skills and sound financial acumen
  • Skilled at diagnosing gaps and developing strategies for individual improvement and growth
  • Organized and methodical, able to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building strong relationships with co-workers, stakeholders, and third parties
